Snowshoeing with Orion Outfitters...

Winter is a great time to visit the mountains of Maine. The scenery is outstanding, and the peacefulness of the forest can't be beat! Snowshoeing is excellent excercise, and a relaxing low impact way to explore the forests.

We offer several snowshoeing options including rentals, and guided day and half day trips. We also offer lodging in our rustic cabin with hearty meals included.

We use and rent traditional wooden snowshoes, made in Canada as they have been made for hundreds of years. It is our belief and experience that these snowshoes have stood the test of time for a reason. They are light, and durable, made by hand of ash and rawhide. We carry several different sizes and styles to accomodate men and women as well as children. Take a step back and enjoy a traditional snowshoe journey into the backwoods of Maine!

Rentals:

$12.00 per day {due back by 6 p.m}

Families of 4 or more: $10.00/ea. per day

Drop off/pick up services available upon request.

Half Day/Full day Guided Trips:

Half day {4-5 hours} $30.00 per person {adults} $15.00 {children}

     Includes: snowshoes, guide, and trail snacks/ hot cocoa.

     Includes: Snowshoes, Guide, and a hot lunch cooked on the trail, along with snacks and hot cocoa.

Lodging:

Combine the above with lodging in our new rustic cabin! Wake to a hearty breakfast and hot coffee, and then we'll set out into the woods. Enjoy a hot trailside lunch, and return to a home cooked dinner.

Warm up by the bonfire and enjoy hot cocoa and smores, and relax away from the crowds and the hustle and bustle.

All trips will be planned to YOUR needs. We will incorporate wildlife tracking/viewing, photography, and more.

Moose Shed Hunting

In the winter, the bull moose sheds his mighty antlers. January is the best time to look for them. They are prized for their usefullness in carving, and rustic decor, and quite honestly worth quite a bit of money.{Just check on ebay!} They make a great "trophy" for the camp or lodge, as they are not easily found. In January we offer Moose Shed Hunting packages. The rates are the same, but our course will be determined by the moose themselves.

We will set out in the morning to find fresh moose tracks and sign. Once found, we will follow in search of dropped antlers. Occasionally a matched pair is found. You will learn quite alot about this amazing creature along the way, and you will surely explore some incredible places. Bring your camera, as moose are often seen along the way as well as well as other wildlife. You will keep any found sheds, as well as some great memories of a unique experience.
